Turning the embers into a bonfire

UVA student groups will demonstrate Wednesday, as pro-Palestine protests are broken up on other Virginia campuses

Wednesday, May 1
11 AM
Wednesday morning, University of Virginia student groups plan to host a protest to call for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

The demonstration is one of dozens being organized by university students across the country this spring. Many of these demonstrations have made national headlines, first because police allowed protesters to remain on campuses overnight. Other protests caught national attention because they were forcefully interrupted by police.

The protest at UVA is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. on The Lawn, the grassy area behind the Rotunda surrounded by historic dorm rooms at 400 Emmet Street South, according to an Instagram post from UVA Dissenters. There is no mention of camping overnight.
